MORMONS

An array of Jewish genealogical documentation available to the interested to discover their roots .

SALT LAKE CITY-A valuable resource for Jewish genealogical research
has expanded to include records from around the world. The popular
FamilySearch Knowles Collection is a database
free records connect Jewish
115,000 people in 30 countries. Combining these records into a single collection
makes it easier for research to find sources of
family.

"One of the biggest problems is that Jewish records
held all over the place and a person can have
records in various places," research consultant and FamilySearch
collection manager, Todd Knowles said. "This means that
someone just started researching his Jewish ancestry
must lead from file to file and from synagogue to synagogue to find what you're looking
. What this collection does is put all
records in one place, which is an incredible time and cost savings for customers
. "

Knowles started the database in 2007 to help him find his own Jewish ancestry
. The collection records began
6500 won the British Isles, but now has expanded rapidly in five
based database with more geographically than 115,000 names

: Jews of the British Isles (82,000 names)

: Jews of the Americas (10,300 names)

: Jews of Europe (18,697 names)

: Jews Caribbean (2,200 names)

: Jews of Africa and the Middle East (367 names)

Knowles Collection is a collection of over 200 different
sources have been transcribed and combined by volunteers.
There is also a complete list of where
original documents can be found. The entire collection is now linked electronically
families and can be searched in
FamilySearch Community Trees Project, located in
http://histfam.familysearch.org.
Researchers can also download versions of each library GEDCOM

According to Knowles, much of the growth of the collection is due to the continuous donation
family records of people around the world
.

"We have received donations from families in the British Isles,
Germany, Russia, Jamaica, and many places in the United States," said Knowles
. "We also have a large collection of records in the synagogue
Mattersdorf, Hungary, and burial records
Charleston, South Carolina, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
seems that word spreads, more guards and more of these types Records
want to participate by donating copies of their work on
to help expand the collection. "
