If someone were to ask: What discs would be "ideal" when it comes to venture into the Black Metal, surely among the first options should be considered "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" by Mayhem. The band and the record before us it is was, is and remains a cornerstone in the lead sound of the current extreme scene (Death / Black). Formed in the 80's band is characterized by be the first in the genre and its extra-musical contributions (some of its members were members of Inner Circle). With a Black Metal in search of his final musical identity on the plane, "De Mysteriis ..." concludes this work, based on its sophisticated music composition and sound up to that point unknown.
The board consists of eight songs, which mostly are around six minutes. Only at specific times periods are melodic guitar rhythms part-time, such is the case of the first two minutes of the song "Pagan Fears".
parts as "Funeral Fog" or "Eternal Life", we point out differences with style disks, predecessors: Clean sound, work excellent battery by Hellhammer (perhaps the best of style) and a heterogeneous voice are the highlights of the plate, on the latter, Attila not tied to the typical singer who "bounce" the classic high-pitched squeals, and transforming the exception rule, alternates between heartbreaking cries and whispers that transmit messages posted by Dead himself. Classics like "Freezing Moon", "Cursed in Eternity", "From the Dark Past" and the namesake of the name plate, fit on one line with pieces of high intensity and composition. The bass lines are implemented by the loved or hated (but never indifferent) Varg Vikernes (Burzum), executioner guitarist Euronymous, whose shares added to the work a musical rather than historical value. The board also had the cooperation of an additional guitar by Blackthorn.
The novelty of a clean sound but extremely aggressive act mainstay in the bands second (Gehenna, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor) and third generation (Keep of Kalessin, 1349) Black Metal.
Under the production and mixing of Hellhammer, Euronymous and Pytten (Eur Eirik Hundvin: subject closely related to the sound of early Black 90) and edited by the label Deathlike Silence (owned by Euronymous, and at that time deceased) in 1994 "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" goes on sale with a circulation of only a thousand copies, so that from then on nothing was the same in the Black Metal.
